"The New Year has started with a bang, and I hope it is a sign of things
to come for 2012. We had a good solid year last year with 29 winners,
yet we were seriously thwarted in breaking our target of 30 winners by
having a disproprortionate amount of 2nds (37) and 3rds (40). Our first
8 runners this year have so far yielded 2 winners, 3 seconds and a third
which has been a very pleasing start. Both winners were particularly
enjoyable for different reasons. The Rectifier gained his first win for
us (and our first winner for his owner Anne Cowley) with a really gutsy
display on his first run on the all-weather over a trip just short of
his best. It was also his comeback run after a break and the main aim
was to put the finishing touches to his preparation for a visit to the
Dubai Carnival. He flew out to
Three days after The Rectifier's win, Speak The Truth also gained a well
overdue success when winning the first of the Blue Square Sprint Series
qualifiers. This has put him in a really good position to qualify for
the final - if he can win or be 2nd in another of the heats that should
secure him enough points to automatically qualify for the final which is
a £15,000 race towards the end of February. He's been a really
consistent, fun horse for Inside Track Racing Club, but following two
close seconds this win was very well deserved.
All the horses that have been away for a winter break have now started
to come back into the main yard, and we are starting to fill up again.
We have some new names this year, not just in the 2yo department, but
also with a few older horses, so we have plenty to look forward to. Once
again, I have set a target of 30 winners and I'd like to think with a
similar level of firepower to last year that with a little bit of luck
on our side this year we will be able to get there. I'm also hoping we
can target some better quality races this year as the prize money at the
lower end is particularly deplorable, which resulted in a very low level
of total prize money won last year."
